PSGV Pumpkin Contest 2007 - Library / Instructional Design

I just thought I would share the pumpkin I helped decorate for our Halloween Luncheon. We did not win, but I think we did a great job.

One thing I did learn from uploading my pictures is...

If you need to rotate photos in Flickr you have to log into Flickr using I.E. I am a Firefox user, so I could not figure out why it would not work, but stepped back and thought a bit and once I went in using I.E. it worked no problem.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

ABC's of Behavior

ABC's of Behavior
Originally uploaded by kuljuls.
I am taking a class and this thought of ABC's of behavior is just sticking with me, so I thought I would share it out. (I adapted an illustration to share with you. I used PowerPoint 2007 and Photoshop CS3 to do this.)

I think everyone needs to take responsibility for their actions. If you do one thing (the antecedent), a behavior will happen, then you need to accept the consequence.

I think there are many problems in this world and if folks just think about this and take ownership of what they do and say, then the world will be a much better place to live in.

I guess you can relate this to technology and acquiring and adapting to new technologies.

An example can be blogging.
The antecedent will be writing something, the behavior can be blogging and thinking and sharing something way cool, and the consequence, may be someone thinking that this is cool and trying it or adapting some new technology into their field.

Some good uses of this model...
- Adaptation of new technology
- Training (like your children or dogs)
- Reshaping poor behavior
- Reshaping children's behavior in I.E.P's

Cyberterrorism... Can it happen to you or me?

What is Cyberterrorism? Cyberterrorism is the convergence of terrorism and cyberspace. It is generally understood to mean unlawful attacks and threats of attack against computers, networks, and the information stored therein when done to intimidate or coerce a government or its people in furtherance of political or social objectives. (http://www.cs.georgetown.edu/~denning/infosec/cyberterror.html)

There are offshoots of Cyberterrorism which includes cyberstalking, in which the victim is a target of one of the following: Malice - Premeditation - Repetition - Distress - Obsession - Vendetta - No Legitimate Purpose - Personally Directed - Disregarded Warnings to Stop - Harassment - Threats (http://www.wiredsafety.org/cyberstalking_harassment/definition.html). You can learn more about the types of cyberstalkers by visiting http://www.wiredsafety.org/cyberstalking_harassment/stalker.html. This is also
a form of Cyberharassment, which is the adult for of Cyberbullying. It is a Crime!

I am currently being a victimized. I am closely following steps I have learned in my bit of research. If you do experience this in any form, you need to tell the person who sent you the threats to stop. It is a crime and you do need to report this along with documentation of evidence to authorities. You need to also keep friends, loved ones, family, and co-workers in the loop. You need to share with them when you receive threats, but also they need to know where you are or where you are going. You need to keep folks in the loop, if something does happen.

I work in an educational environment. And events that have taken place in the past year in the United States have made institutions take threats of cyberharassment very seriously. My institution actually hired a full time police officer who is dedicated to events of cyberharassment, but my hr, local security, along with IT Security does have a knowledge. I guess you can say they are cybersensitive now, which I am greatful for.

If you are victimized do not waver if you get a bad feeling. Call local authorites and report the event to people close to you, because it does not work to ignore these events. You need to say stop and then contact the authorities. They are there to help you and to protect you.

If I learn more I will share, if you know more, share.

New Presentation Tool to Check Out!

Are You sick of PowerPoint 2007 and its new "Ribbon" Menu? Well, I just stumbled upon Google Presentation in Google Docs. I have heard that this is coming, and well it is here.

It is not fancy and glamorous, but you can create a basic presentation, but you can share this presentation out and even invite folks to join in and chat with the presentation, which is pretty cool.

I think it would be very cool to use in the front of a class and students have access to the presentation and interact live. But this would work with a phone conference also.

Check it out!!!

Alternative Presentation Tool for those sick of PowerPoint 2007

In creating a new document in Google Docs, I stumbled across something that I have been looking for. Google Presentation

Flip Video

I just tested out the new Flip Video Ultra. I did not really do editing with it. But I shot some footage with curiosity on how easy it was to push to YouTube. It took a matter of five minutes. The software is built right into the device. If there is any video you wish to do and push to the web, I recommend trying out the Ultra. I still want to get some footage to place on a dvd, to see what that process is like, but that will be a while.

So Kudos and check out the footage of Emma strolling through my house!

Computers & Youth

I am a bit interested on youth and computers, especially girls getting interested in computers. So, I want to share my curiosity in Webkins. My co-worker had asked me about webkins, and I had no clue, so I asked a young cousin of mine and she was like, I have 5. So, I was unable to connect with her, so I bought one. I bought a chihuahua, to check it out. You get a stuffed animal and then a code to enter the virtual world.

Why did I acquire these toys? I was curious of whether this virtual world was safe after visiting with second life. Questions that came to mind included... What kind of chatting features are available? (It is basicly canned.) Can you learn something? What kinds of interactions or games are available? Can you make friends and communicate?

I introduced my webkinz access to my friends daughter, who soon after playing with mine, was given her first, which was a cat and she named grase with an s. For her birthday, the cake I posted. I gave her a panda, she also received a puppy. But I gave her in addition a kinz charm with a charm bracelet along with some trading cars.

There are many toys becoming available for children, including a Barbie virtual world and the Shining Starz. If I find more and have access, I will post what I learn.

I will try to post more on my friends daughters new birthday webkinz toys when I learn more. Oh and you may wonder, his daughter is only 8 years old.
